Digital re-release of Final Fantasy VII heading to PC

Square Enix has announced a new version of Final Fantasy VII which will be heading to PC soon.

While the game saw a boxed release in 1997, the latest iteration will be digital only and bolstered by a number of tweaks.

Chief among these a new character booster system that will allow you to crank your HP, MP and Gil levels up to their maximum at a click of a button, mitigating any bottlenecks. Whether this will take the form of a free function or microtransaction remains unclear.

Fittingly, the game also introduces cloud saving, allowing you to pick up your game on any PC. There will also be upscaled visuals and 36 achievements to unlock if you need any further encouragement to take up Avalanche's fight one more time.

See the announcement trailer below, or head over to the official site.

"Available Exclusively on the SQUARE ENIX Store"

Just... Why? I mean, fine, you don't want Steam being the sole digital distro company, or whatever. But, Good Lord, it's not going to be for sale anywhere else? Just... What the hell?

I refuse to buy anything that isn't on Steam. There's no reason for every publisher to have their own shop and I don't want to have my personal details spread across 50 different sites just to buy PC games.

I don't mind the prospect of every publisher having their own store per se, but it's the unavoidable manifold login details that are the pain.
